Breastworks at Marshview

There are earthworks known as breastworks located behind Marshview Nursing Home near Isle of Hope. These works lie between Skidaway Road and Central Avenue, and were probably designed to protect the old railroad track and causeway that led to Isle of Hope.

Like most earthworks these structures are difficult to see especially as a still image. Nature has practically reclaimed these fighting positions.

The large tree growing out of the incline in the left center of picture is a sign that the depression has been around for some time. Notice how the depression curves pack and around both sides froming a horse shoe effect. During the war this position was probably chest high thus the reason they are called breastworks.
