The following images demonstrate the significant amount of damage sustained to the battery from erosion.

The archaeological feature revealed here is an old shell midden or mound which indicates that Native Americans resided in this area many, many years before the American Civil War.  The midden is the area where these shells were discarded after the oyster was harvested from the shell.
